Our story

The part of the day you never see

Truffio is a small collection of objects built for the hours a cat or a dog spends alone at home.

A dog resting on the parquet beside the puzzle feeder
A dog nosing the wobble treat dispenser

It started with one question

Truffio began with one question: what does a cat or a dog actually do between nine and six? In most homes, very little. So we went looking for objects that give an animal a job, and kept only the ones that still work when nobody is watching.

How an object earns its place

We are not trying to fill a shelf. Every object here had to answer for itself first.

  1. 1

It has to answer an instinct

Sniff, hunt, lick or feed. If an object does not do one of those jobs, it does not get on the list.

  2. 2

    It has to work unwatched

The real question is whether it still holds an animal's attention when there is nobody in the room to restart it.

  3. 3

It has to beat what is already here

One good object per job is enough. Something new only goes on the list if it does that job better than what it would replace.

The hours are the whole point

Between the door closing and the door opening there is a long, quiet stretch. Everything here is meant to give an animal something to do inside it.

Four instincts, one afternoon

An animal left alone does not need more toys. It needs something to do with its nose, its feet and its mouth. Everything here is filed under one of those four jobs, so you can shop for the behaviour you want to change rather than guessing at a product.
